Summer is almost here! Explore the Lawton School Library web page for some great books to read and fun activities to do!
The Ann Arbor Public School Elementary Librarians have compiled summer activities that will keep you reading and active. Click on the “tent” and scroll down to see the choice boards the Librarians have put together. Check out the links at the top to see eBook recommendations and more summer fun activities. Be sure to click on the “globe” to find books and information about race and social justice. Rain or shine, indoors or out - you are bound to have fun at our virtual summer reading camp!

Britannica Online is another good online resource to use to locate reliable information. One way to access this resource is from MeL - Michigan Electronic Library. The web address is: mel.org/kids
Once at this website, scroll down and click on Britannica School Middle.
There are many ways to find information on this database. I would like you to take some time and explore this resource. Use the search option and scroll through the page to find useful links to sections of information. Try clicking on items that look interesting to you.
Write down five sections of this resource that you think are interesting and email me your notes.

Around the World Using World Book Encyclopedia
Hello Leopards!
There are many places to find reliable information online. I would like you to practice using the World Book Encyclopedia to "travel" around the world. See if you can use different search strategies to locate these places around the world using World Book Kids.
Instructions:
1. Click on Online Resources for Home Learning
2. Click on the World Book link
3. Select World Book Kids
4. Start traveling!
5. Optional Activity:
Look for the following places: The Eiffel Tower, The Taj Mahal, Machu Picchu, Victoria Falls, Mount Everest, The Great Wall.
For each place, tell me what country you would find this place, and one thing you learned about this place. Email me your responses.

Last week we learned about being safe online. I thought it would be useful to learn about the history of computers and how we use computers and other devices today. 2. Click on Clever to log into your clever account
3. Scroll down the page and select PebbleGoNext
4. Select Biographies
5. Choose a category
6. Choose a person that you are interested in learning about.
7. Be sure to click on each tab to read the information. Click on the speaker button to listen to the information.
8. As you are learning about the person, think about what he/she is most famous for doing, and other important facts.
9. Optional Activity: When you are finished, write down 5-10 facts that you learned about this person and share them with someone in your home.
Biographies are one of my favorite genres. If you would like, send me an email about what you learned about the person you chose.

3. Once logged in, click on the TypingClub icon. Spend about 30 minutes practicing your typing.
This is a great skill that you will use as you get bigger.
4. Remember to use all 10 fingers, and place fingers on the Home Row!
